FRIENDSHIP

There is hardly anything more natural than having friends. We can usually distinguish between different types of friends. We can identify our best friend, our good friends, our casual friends, friends of the family, and old friends. We usually have many acquaintances. These are people who we know, and maybe, with some, we are exceptionally friendly. Still we don’t quite consider them to be in same class as our friends.

What makes a relationship a friendship? That can be rather difficult to define. Friendship means different things to different people. Often there is a feeling of affection and usually trust. A friend is a person with whom we tend to feel more relaxed, open, and equal. There is some sort of a bond that is held together by positive feelings and history.

In truth, the stronger the friendship the more complex the relationship. With that complexity comes all sorts of potential benefits...and problems. Each of the following films, in one way or another, explores the issue of friendship revealing what makes for a good, rewarding relationship and one that is unhealthy and even painful.
