Animation of the Old Fire/Grand Prix fire in the San Bernardino Mountains east of Los Angeles, from data acquired October 26, 2003 by ASTER. It was created by combining ASTER visible, near-infrared and shortwave infrared imagery with Landsat Thematic Mapper data and US Geological Survey digital topographic data. ASTER’s shortwave infrared imagery penetrates the smoke and ash plumes to expose hot spots. Animation created by Vince Realmuto, JPL.
